About Us
Swedish school Halton Incorporated is a Not-for-profit organization registered in the province of Ontario.
Prior to operating as SSH inc. and becoming Ontario registered we operated as Lekstugan or the Play hut in Halton and Swedish school Halton.
We aim to promote an understanding of Sweden and the Swedish language. We learn through socialization with other native Swedes and descendants. Our learning material is obtained through the Swedish Board of Education and is age and skill appropriate.
Together we celebrate Swedish traditions and customs. Our largest effort is at Christmas time when we celebrate St. Lucia. Last year we visited 9 schools in the Halton region singing st. Lucia songs and telling the story of our tradition. We were featured on the front page of the Oakville Beaver and appeared on Breakfast televisions.
We also gear to promote an understanding of social responsibility and acceptance through sponsoring people in need. For the last 18 months our support has gone to the patients in Critical care at Parkwood Hospital. The children write cards and send holiday presents and most recently we donated a check for over $2000 to be used to enhance the lives of the patients through recreational activities. This helps the children grow and gives them a sense of fulfillment and value. It also promotes a unity between all people no matter what background.
We meet approximately every other week in the Glen Abbey United Church in Oakville. The exact dates for the 2011-2012 school year are as follows:
