Presentation on Astrid Lindgren on Friday

Hello All

On Friday we will begin our presentations on Astrid Lindgren, we will do as many as we have time for and then wrap up with a movie and fika.

We are very excited to see what you guys have come up with. We will have a lap top available on site and a white screen so if some of you older kids would like to do your presentation on the computer that is great. 

We will continue our presentations next class as well. Remember that for the little kids, just bringing in a show and share is enough, for ex if you like Pippi and doll will suffice, it is a matter of inclusion with all groups.

On saturday we will meet in the school parking lot and our bus will depart promptly at 9am. So please make sure that you are on time. We would like to ask the kids to wear a Swedish T-shirt of jersey if you have one. If not we will have some available on the bus as well. Also remember that we do have shirts available for sal on our web site under Swedish Merchandise. if you are not going on the bus we will meet at the information centre at Toronto Zoo.

We are getting close to the end of the school year and our big celebration at Lowille park the 6th. We hope that you can make it and I know that we will have a great time just like last year. If it rains we will be in our school gymnasium.

We will also begin to accept registrations for fall 09 starting Friday. In Fall we will welcome ANETTE KERNER as a new teacher. We are currently working on high school accreditation credits and if this comes through for the fall, GUN will lead this new group.

We are still seeking volunteers for our school trip. It will not happened if we are not able to get a committee together. So if you are interested in a trip to barnens o i sweden next summer, you need to volunteer for this commute in the next week or the project will be put on hold indefinitely. Remember most of the leg work is already completed for this trip.

Regarding our Angels, if at anytime you would like to send a card, letter , movie or gift to your angels, please just bring it to school and I will make sure your angels gets it. You need to know how much they appreciate your kindness. We have several angels waiting for a student so if you do not have one and would like to be part of this unique opportunity to be an angel to some one in need, please let me know.  

I would again like to THANK TERTRA PACK CANADA for their generous donation of juice to SSH. This helps out our fika time immensely.

Skol resa till Toronto ZOO

On Friday we will be talking about Valborg,and we will be making May flowers.

We will also have  chance to finish our post cards that we will started last week. Not to worry if you do not have your sheet we have extra ones in class.

We will also offer a unique opportunity to become pen pals with the students of a School in Sweden. Lise will be talking about this in class on Friday.

On Saturday May 16th, we are invited to a school trip to TORONTO ZOO. SSH will cover the costs involved with this trip and have arranged for a school bus to drive us.
Please see the attached form and bring it in on Friday or mail it as per instructions.
We will also visit the Sting Ray exibit and learn about animals in both Swedish and English.

Since we did not have enough interest and with all the additional costs of our new facility and insurance, our school trip to Sweden is Postponed as earlier mentioned. However, we are currently looking for Committee member for a school trip to sweden for next summer. If we can get a committee of parents and volunteers set up this is still a very exciting opportunity. We will also have more funding available come next summer. We are still able to book our cottage at Barnens o for Summer 2010. Please contact me ASAP if you would be interest in serving on this committee. remember that most of the leg work is done, as the location and costs have already been researched.

We will be having a parent night in later May where we will be discussing our Lucia committee and SWEA committee as well, and we hope that as many of you as possible can make it. There we will also discuss the opportunity of SSH to be able to issue half credits for high school international language courses. More information is to follow.

come celebrate May 1st at SSH

This friday we will celebrate first of May and we will make may flowers.

Last week some of you brought home postcard papers please bring it to class on Friday as we will have some time to work on it in class.

We would like to thank Tetra Pak for their generous donation of juice for our snack time.

I hope you all had a great Easter weekend with family and friends.

We look forward to seeing you for class on Friday. Lise will be away at the SWEA conference in Washington and we wish her and all other SWEA’s a wonderful trip.

Swedish Products Now Available From SSH

Thank you everyone for a super fun Easter Party.  We did so many crafts we did not even have time for our games, but I promise we will do them another time.

I was happy to see so many of you utilized the Library, and please remember that you can bring your own books to the library as well. Just put your name in them if you would like them back at the end of the semester.

I have some great news…we are now offering some of our products that we were selling at SWEAS fair online. You can find these products by clicking on the Swedish merchandise link in the side bar. For a short time we are offering at NO TAX event on all products. All proceeds from goes to Swedish School Halton.

I would also like to give a huge thank you to Gun who again had made such wonderful snacks for our party, you are Amazing!! I would also like to give special thanks to Anette and all the other parents who stayed and helped clean up. I am sorry I had to leave so abruptly and did not get a chance to say thank you to everyone.

For our next class we will have a unique opportunity to create our own Post Cards. We thought it would be a fun idea for all the children to draw their own card and then have them made into pre-packaged cards that we may order if you wish. We would recommend making a generic card such as Ha En Trevlig Dag , that way you can use it anytime. So if you wish to make a card, you can start thinking of what motif might be good.

With Easter next Friday I will be sending tulip bouquets to our angels at Parkwood Hospital, if you would like to contribute to this I will gladly accept donations at our next class.

Här är en lätt och söt Påsk sång att ladda hem

På Fredag blir det Påsk Fest med Påskkärringsparad och mysig Fika. Vi kommer att prata om Svenska påsktraditioner och göra påskpyssel vid olika stationer. Allt du behöver för att klä ut dig ar ett förkläde och huckle, eller en gammal hatt.

Vi kommer även att ha stafettlekar och jag tror att påskharen har varit på besök…

Vi välkomnar alla föraldrar till fika kl 18.00.

Påskkärring, även påskakärring, är enligt gammal svensk tradition en häxa som flyger på kvast till Blåkulla på skärtorsdagen eller natten mellan dymmelonsdagen och skärtorsdagen.

I Sverige är det vanligt att barn klär ut sig till påskkärringar vid påsk. En påskkärring är traditionellt klädd i klänning, förkläde och huckle. De går ofta runt och överlämnar små tecknade kort som de själva ritat; i gengäld får de godis eller någon annan mindre gåva.

Hoppas att alla haft ett trevligt sportlov och att ni ar ordentligt utvilade. Nu ar det dax för Svenska skolan igen. På Fredag kommer vi att  jobba med att beskriva sig själva och andra med positiva ord och göra en teckning med sitt namn och ord som stämmer in på sig själv. Vi små kommer att ha kul med lite andra aktiviteter. Med tanke på temat skickar jag med  en antavla. En antavla utgår från en person i nutid och går bak i tiden för att visa förfäderna. Det är alltid kul att släktforska lite. Om du vill får du gjarna ta med och visa andra i klassen.

Ingen Skola 13 Mars

Due to March break there will be no class on Friday March 13th.

We will add another date for an extra field trip instead when the weather gets warmer.

Swedish School Halton in Oakville

I hope that you all love our new location as much as us teachers! It was a great fit and I know that we will be very happy there.

A Card arrived from our Angels at Parkwood Hospital and I will bring it to show you on Friday. I just wanted to Thank you all again for your thoughtfulness and generosity you are showing for your angels. You need to know how much these people live for your Cards and thoughts. For many of them you are the only connection to the outside world and their only family. So again, Thank you so much! and remember anytime you would like to write a letter, send a gift or make a donation, please let me know and I will forward it to them. I am hoping to have another fundraiser this year for our angels. They would be able to have a spring party with the funds and this would greatly improve the quality of life for these people. I will let you know that is in the works.
